Free and Cheap - Educational Apps

Classflow FREE APP and WEBSITE
Ever wanted to send your students the pages you are showing on the SMART board? Now, you can do just that! With this website/app, you can create assessments inside your lessons. There are some other apps that do close to the same thing. However, the other apps cost money, only give small amounts for free, or do not do all that Classflow does. If you like this app, you could try the app Nearpod as well.

Google Earth   FREE APP

This app can be used for Map and Globe skills, listening skills, landforms, communities, and much more. It gives students the opportunity to explore educational concepts while exploring their real world surroundings.

Mathmateer   FREE APP

The free version of this app covers addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, and much more. The students are given the opportunity to design their own rockets and blast them off to space. The more money they accumulate the more choices they choose for their rocket. This app is a favorite in my classroom.

Math Puppy Bingo Challenge

This is a math app for elementary age children. What I really like about this app is that it not only allows students to practice with addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division, but it allows students to work with all four operations at one time. The free version only allows the use of subtraction, but for $0.99 you will be allowed to use all components of the app.

Timmy's Kindergarten Adventure

This is a great app to have your child master before coming to first grade. It starts with all the major concepts that are needed to be taught to your children before they enter 1st grade. It costs $1.99, but is well worth the price if you have a child coming into 1st grade. There is also a free app with less involved if you prefer it.

MeeGenius Books - The Read-Along Educational App for Kids   FREE APP

This is a great was to model fluent reading with your child. I find this app especially important for students who struggle with reading fluency. It allows them an opportunity to hear fluent reading from someone other than their teachers or parents.

iTooch Elementary Math, Language, and Science  FREE APP

Although this app is for 3-5th grade math, language arts, and science concepts, it is free, and is full of over 18,000 exercises. It is also aligned to the new common core standards. Any teacher or student would benefit from using this app at school.

Fluency Level 1

This app helps children read fluently. It does cost $1.99 but it is perfect for 1st graders practicing their fluency skills.

 Letter Reflex

This app gives students the opportunity to practice with letters like b, d, q, and p. These letters are often reversed by many 1st grade students.

Phonics Tic Tac Toe.  FREE APP

What's better than Tic Tac Toe for 1st graders? Maybe a free game that involves he use of an I-Pad! My students love competing with one another, and learning sounds makes it all more fun.

Accelerated Reader

Do you only have one I-Pad in your room? Try using it for AR tests. My students love taking tests on an I-Pad. I'm not sure why they get so excited, but they do. It's much more fun than and old slow computer.

Math Bingo

Bingo, creepy, cute creatures, and addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division; need I say more. This app does cost $0.99, but it is a great way to practice your math facts. It can be used throughout your child's elementary school years.

Everyday Mathematics Addition Top-It

This app would give your 1st grader practice adding and comparing larger numbers, so they are ready to be successful in 2nd grade. The app costs $1.99, and is great for 1st, 2nd, and 3rd grade students.
